Lil Miss Vogue
In case any of us need a refresher, Lil Miss Rarity was a popular Tumblr Ask Blog that started on October 11th, 2011. The blog followed the story of an evil Rarity as she documented her descent into madness, through the realms of both pain and pleasure, for lack of better terms. The story began after an incident with her cat Opal, which she violently threw into a wall after being mutilated and scratched over the eye. This act not only killed the cat, but sent Rarity spiraling down a path of no return. This blog was infamous for including a large number of NSFW elements, some very graphic, that often made younger fans very uncomfortable.
Thus, Rainbott has rewritten this fanfic and created a less sexual version of the character for the fandom to enjoy! This project is not a reclamation by any means, but instead something that was written entirely for fun, especially since Rarity is Rainbott's favorite MLP character. "I may be a YouTuber now, but cringe culture is dead and I will always love my roots as a silly fandom kid." - Rainbott Table of Contents

Lil Miss Vogue (Story)
We open on a very familiar scene; Rarity setting up a camera in her workshop. She claims that she’s decided to start a blog, since technology in Equestria has been advancing a lot and she wants to keep up with modern trends. The workshop we see doesn’t seem to match the rest of Carousel Boutique, but Rarity insists that it’s only because she hasn’t finished redecorating the unfamiliar space. The room’s lighting also isn’t the best, giving her videos that signature reddish hue we saw in the original blog.
Rarity begins making weekly updates on her blog, talking about all sorts of fashion trends and upcoming events, but it seems like nobody is interested in what she has to say. Her blog is very small right now, which seems odd since she’s one of the most famous designers in Equestria. How could more ponies not know about her online page? Eventually, one of her few followers asks if they could see Rarity’s cat, who she’s mentioned a few times by now. Rarity is oddly hesitant, but when she sees how much traction the suggestion is getting, she still promises to bring in Opal for her next blog post.
As promised, the next update is a video of Rarity showing off her cat, but something seems off. Opal is hissing and writhing around in her grasp, as if she doesn’t want to be here at all, and the feline eventually scratches Rarity across the eye before pouncing at her computer and ending the feed. When she gets back online later, Rarity is apologetic for the incident and feels ashamed by her newly formed scar, but she is quickly taken aback by the large amount of support her followers show. They all say she’s still beautiful even with the scar, and they claim that she’s very brave to show her true self on the internet. This incident causes Rarity’s following to grow, and she quickly becomes a much more popular blogger.
Soon enough, hundreds of people are watching Rarity’s weekly updates, and the demand for content has grown so high that she eventually starts posting every day and doing live streams for her audience. Ponies shower her with praise during each stream, saying that Rarity is much more genuine than other famous designers; she wears makeup to cover her scar in public, but online, she shows her true self to her most dedicated fans.
One day, Rarity is doing another live stream when she notices that her view count has been steadily going down. When she asks why, her followers claim that they’ve already seen what she has to offer and they aren’t as interested anymore. When she points out her scar again, hoping to reforge the passion and praise of her digital fans, they remain unenthusiastic. The scar is old news. Becoming panicked and desperate for approval, Rarity asks her viewers what she should do. Some suggest various fashion trends or DIY projects, but one comment stands out among the rest. “Do it again.” This confuses her, so she asks for clarification. “Do what again, exactly? What do you mean by that?” “You know, it! Do it again! The scar on your face is old news, sure, but what if you showed us a new one?”
Rarity was appalled. “Are you suggesting that I mutilate myself in front of my audience to get more views?” “I’m not suggesting, I’m telling you to do it. After all, if it worked once, maybe it’ll work again?” Rarity sits in silence for a moment, weighing her options. Eventually, she leaves her computer and moves across the room. The workshop is silent, the viewers watching and murmuring in confusion amongst themselves. Rarity stands at her dresser, considering putting an end to the blog altogether, but she stops when her dresser’s mirror shows her the computer screen again. At the mere mention of a new scar, her viewer count has doubled in mere minutes, with everybody watching on in anticipation, anxious to see if she really does it. Making her choice, Rarity rummages through a drawer.
She returns to her computer with a pink handled knife. “I am Rarity, famous fashionista and friend to all, but more than that, I am the element of generosity. How could I live up to my element’s name if I denied so many requests?” Without any hesitation, she cuts a new scar into her chest in the shape of a diamond, one that matches her elemental necklace.
The blog continues to post and stream regularly, but with a much darker twist. Viewers can now donate money to suggest new scars or ask vulgar questions. Rarity thrives off of the attention, gladly turning her own body into a bloody canvas at the whims of her audience. Along the way, she also begins to fantasize and ramble about a pony she admires; Pinkamena Diane Pie. Her viewers are initially taken aback by her ramblings, but they quickly get into it and join along. Rarity talks about how Pinkie Pie always wears a mask in front of everyone, but she’s seen past it. Rarity knows the real Pinkamena, and Rarity is obsessed with her.
On the day of the Grand Galloping Gala, Rarity begins to grow distraught. Her viewers are expecting her to look amazing, of course, but they quickly become more interested in the grudge she holds against one of the other designers attending the event, Pursey Pink. When prompted by her followers, Rarity explains how she had always been stood up by Pursey Pink. For years, they have always competed in fashion shows, but Pursey won every single time. Now, when the princesses were choosing a designer for their gala dresses, there was a contest held. The princesses wanted the results to be fair, so the entire city of Canterlot would be voting to decide the winner. Rarity was on a path to win, finally able to achieve the dream she’s had since she was a filly, but she is thwarted by the arrival of Pursey Pink.
You see, Pursey’s wagon had a broken wheel, and she got in an accident on her way to the competition, injuring her hind legs. Even though Rarity had the superior designs, the civilians felt touched by Pursey’s story, giving her an overwhelming number of pity votes to secure her win. It wasn’t fair. Rarity should have won. She worked so hard for that contest, yet she lost again to her old rival. Then, Rarity’s fans suggest something scandalous. They tell her to get revenge by ruining Pursey’s speech at the gala, and she’s so overtaken by hatred that she quickly agrees.
The next morning, newspapers are flooded with stories and pictures about the scandal of the century. Rarity, an element of harmony and protector of Equestria, violently attacked her fellow fashion designer at the Grand Galloping Gala. Papers also report that Rarity was covered in scars, and she escaped the scene after being hit by a blast of magic from one of the guards. At the same time, Rarity’s blog is thrust into the public spotlight, suddenly skyrocketing into virality as her videos quickly garner thousands to millions of views. Now everybody in the world knew about Rarity’s little blog, and they were all waiting to see what she’d do next.
After a short period of silence, Rarity starts another live stream. This time, she’s actually in the main room of the Carousel Boutique, even though she’d previously never filmed any videos in this area. She has her knife with her, informing the audience that Sweetie Belle should be home from school any moment now, so she’s waiting to give her sister a surprise. This stream also reveals that one of Rarity’s eyes has become black and infected with magic, as a side effect from magic scarring her eye, and it’s the same one where her very first scar had appeared.
Rarity grows manic, asking the camera if she’s still pretty. Will they still love her the same? Is she still good enough for her beloved Pinkamena? Her rambling comes to an end as we hear the door handle begin to turn. She grins, eagerly whirling around to face the newcomer, only to be met with a shocking sight. In the doorway stands Rarity, the real Rarity, who is accompanied by half of Canterlot’s royal guard…
Let’s go back in time a little bit. Six years ago, there was a scandal. An element of harmony was found with dead bodies and skeletons in her basement. This pony was none other than Pinkie Pie, element of laughter, who was quickly taken into custody by the royal guard. Days after the incident, investigators arrive at the doorstep of a Ponyville resident who lived close by. This pony was named Lil Vogue, a small-town fashion designer who had moved to Ponyville after failing to make it out in the big city. They question her about the crimes of Pinkie Pie, but it’s evident that she doesn’t know anything, so the officers turn to leave. However, Vogue asks them a question before they can go. “Why did you come to my house? I’ve only just moved to Ponyville, and I hardly knew Pinkie Pie at all. Why interrogate me out of everyone in town?” Hesitantly, the officers reveal the reason why they’d spoken to her. You see, Pinkie Pie kept a list of who her next targets would be, and before she’d gotten arrested, the only pony next on her list was none other than Vogue herself.
Appalled, Vogue nods along as the officers wish her well, but she can’t stop thinking about it for hours after they go. Why her? Why not anyone else? She’d hardly known Pinkie Pie at all, but she was going to be her next victim? She had to know why.
Reluctantly, Vogue shows up at the Canterlot prison during visiting hours, deciding to speak with Pinkie herself. Pinkie Pie’s trial will begin soon, and most ponies are certain she’ll be the first to end up on death row after centuries of peace. Pinkie Pie almost doesn’t recognize who her visitor is, but when Vogue says her name, her eyes light up in recognition. “Oh, I remember you. You’re that new pony who moved in last week.” When Vogue asks why she’d been next on Pinkie’s list, the mare only smiles and leans in close. “Well, I can’t just give you that information for free, you know. Private investigators across Equestria would kill to get that sort of answer! No, if you want to know the truth so badly, you’ll have to play my game first…” Thus, a game of cat and mouse begins, where Vogue makes weekly visits to the prison to interrogate the serial killer. Vogue would ask about Pinkie Pie’s process and learn more about her methods, and in return, Pinkie would ask about Lil Vogue’s hobbies and learn more about her personal life.
This cycle continues for a dangerously long time, and over the years, Vogue becomes attached to Pinkie Pie. She can’t seem to stop visiting her, so she continues finding new reasons to go, even long after she realized she’d only been the next victim completely by random chance. She had been sick of losing contest after contest to her rival, feeling creative burnout whenever she’d try to design, but something about Pinkie sparked something inside of her. In some twisted way, it was almost like they were friends. One day, Pinkie mentions that Vogue is a lot like her old friend Rarity, but she wasn’t nearly as talented. In fact, Vogue also looks a lot like Rarity, as if the two could be mistaken for twins on a rainy day.
Vogue feels saddened by this information, afraid of falling into yet another designer’s shadow, but she perks up again when Pinkie clarifies, “You could use that to your advantage.” It’s been five years since they first began these meetings, and Equestria is finally starting to use more advanced technology, including computers and the internet itself. When she gets home later that night, Vogue decides to try something new. She dyes her hair and retrieves a curling iron. The color isn’t exact, since she could only afford cheaper dye, but it was enough to get the job done. Then, she sets up a new blog on her computer, claiming to be none other than Rarity herself, and we know what happens after that…
As time goes on, Vogue begins to see Pinkie Pie everywhere, as if she’s somehow being followed everywhere she goes. Late at night, she even sees the mare watching from the forest outside, as if she’s waiting for Vogue to run away with her. She’s never had hallucinations before, but what else could it be? Is she going mad?
One year later, the Grand Galloping Gala rolls around, as does Pinkie Pie’s scheduled execution. Knowing that this meeting will be their last, Pinke lets Vogue rave and rant about her frustrations with Pursey Pink, her fashion rival since foalhood. Just as their meeting nears its end, Pinkie Pie speaks her final words to the mare. “If your fans want you to take what’s rightfully yours, what reason do you have to deny them?” Just like that, the rest was history.
Panicked by the sudden arrival of the guards, Vogue throws Rarity’s fainting couch at the group and races further into the boutique, taking her precious camera with her. Rarity is still shocked that someone broke into her house, mortified that Sweetie Belle could have gotten hurt, but a friend arrives to comfort her. It’s Apple Bloom, who is now 16 years old and acting as Princess Celestia’s second student. To protect Equestria from other violent criminals like Pinkamena, Apple Bloom had agreed to work with Derpy Hooves and Minkie Pie to form the M.A.D. They chase after Vogue with the royal guard, but they can’t seem to find any traces of the mare in the boutique. The only evidence left behind is a broken camera lense laying near the back door and a shattered lock.
When Vogue comes to her senses, she discovers that she has been rescued from the guards’ capture, waking up in a cave in the Everfree Forest. This is the cave of the mirror pool. When she looks towards her savior, Vogue is shocked to see none other than Pinkie Pie herself, but something seems different. No, this isn’t Pinkie Pie; it’s one of her clones from the mirror pool, who had escaped many years ago. After a close call of nearly being caught in Manehattten, she took residence in the Everfree Forest to avoid contact with anyone, terrified of being destroyed alongside the other clones. As the years passed, her appearance withered and changed, since clones weren’t meant to sustain themselves for more than a day.
The clone calls herself Mena, to distance herself from the original Pinkamena, and she has rescued Vogue because she believes that Vogue must also be a clone as well. After all, why else would she look so much like Rarity? Wasn’t that why the guards were all after her? Because they wanted to kill the surviving clone?
Vogue considers her options for a moment, almost deciding to tell Mena the truth, but she stops herself. What life did she have before this anyway? One empty of purpose with little to no meaning? No, she decides, she’ll play along with the concept of being a clone. Additionally, Mena sees her as a potential leader or boss, since she’d been able to successfully live in public for much longer than Mena herself. Smitten by the praise, she gives her name as Vogue, as if that were some sort of nickname she just invented for herself. Mena nods along, calling her Miss Vogue, as if she were the one in charge. Vogue wrinkles her nose slightly, claiming that the title is too formal, suddenly smirking when a better idea comes to mind.
“Lil Miss Vogue. You may refer to me as Lil Miss Vogue.”
